Many, particularly in the West, have an image of Kolkata as a teeming, dirty city they hesitate to visit. After all, it is one of the most densely populated cities on earth and even the word “Calcutta” has come to suggest extreme poverty. However, as I walked the city in the early mornings, I discovered its undeniable charm.
